Nexus Open Software

Nexus Open Software has enjoyed an extremely successful summer this year. Our Software Products have been deployed by a number of prominent South West based organisations. In addition our development teams have been working hard to ensure that MiCore Portal Engine, MiSupport Helpdesk, MiCRM Marketing Software and SPAR.net were upgraded with new features and released to customers in the autumn.

Recent new MiCore Portal Engine customers range from large enterprise organisations to small companies employing only a handful of staff. Some high profile organisations that have completed MiCore Web Portal installations include Flybe, Bray Leino, Kreston International and The Eden Project. In addition a number of small and medium sized businesses have purchased MiCore to enable them to improve business efficiency, through better communication and collaboration, including Eltek Semiconductors, Llexeter Ltd and Plymouth Diocese.

These examples reflect the scalability and flexibility that MiCore offers, creating real business benefits to a diverse audience. The businesses and organisations that use MiCore Web Portals to manage company wide communication and knowledge management, position MiCore as a critical software product that streamlines their organisations efficiency. These recent success stories confirm Nexus as a leading supplier in the Intranet, Extranet and Web Portal industry. Take a look at our customer Case Studies to see how doing business in a Web browser can save you time and money.

MiSupport Helpdesk Software has been purchased and deployed recently by a number of prominent organisations. Bishop Fleming Chartered Accountants selected MiSupport to manage its IT Helpdesk, incident logging and tracking for its user base spread across six offices. MiSupport has also been deployed at Flybe and The Eden Project as part of their MiCore Web Portal projects.

Nexus Open Systems

The summer of 2006 has been a busy time for Nexus Open Systems and its customers. A number of organisations took the opportunity of the summer break to upgrade their computer and communication systems. Examples of some of our recent projects include:

Armada Finance has been providing asset finance to businesses for over 30 years. Having outgrown its existing premises it was successful in locating to prestigious new offices close to Darts Farm, Topsham. Armada took advantage of the relocation to renew its ICT systems. This involved the purchase and implementation of four new IBM servers, a network cabling solution, new network devices using Cisco technology and over 20 new workstations. The company was keen to migrate its email and business applications from the existing building to the new infrastructure with the minimum of disruption to users. Nexus successfully project managed and deployed the new network out of hours, during the evenings and weekend.

Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) provides public services to over 72,000 people in Mid Devon including the towns of Tiverton, Crediton and Cullompton. In order to support its activities, MDDC had a requirement to upgrade its Local and Wide Area Network infrastructure to increase bandwidth. Nortel accredited Nexus xengineers worked with MDDC personnel to design, deploy and configure a network topology based on a highly resilient Nortel core switch with additional secure wireless access points. The Wide Area Network was improved by utilising a combination of 10Mb EPS and 100Mb laser links to provide high speed connections to MDDC’s 6 remote offices. The solution also supplied ‘Power over Ethernet’ to key locations, which enables IP devices such as telephone handsets and wireless access points to be powered without the need for additional mains cabling and adapters.

TLT Solicitors based in Bristol is one of the South West’s largest law firms and is one of the top 100 legal practices in the UK. Nexus has worked closely with TLT for many years and recently helped review and upgrade its core computer network infrastructure. In addition to supplying hardware, software and technical resources for the project, Nexus also designed and implemented a business continuity and disaster recovery solution, utilising a leased line connection to a remote office in London. VMware and Doubletake software was used to replicate the main office core computer environment, ensuring TLT’s computer systems continue to function and are accessible, even if important server hardware fails at Head Office.

Lawyers at Work (LAW) is a Yeovil based legal company who specialise in employment law. Having recently de-merged from its sister company, LAW was looking for an ICT company to provide outsourced support for its computer network. Nexus proposed the use of its ‘NETmon’ remote network monitoring product and Retained Technical Service (RTS) for onsite support. NETmon is an appliance based solution that provides Nexus customers with a 24 x 7 monitoring and alerting service for key computer network system parameters, including network traffic, connectivity, processor utilisation and hard disk space usage, plus hundreds of other configurable options. In the case of a system failure NETmon alerts Nexus engineers and key personnel who can then proactively diagnose the fault remotely and if necessary attend site to achieve a resolution.

Crosse and Crosse is an Exeter based legal firm that employs over 70 staff across two offices. During the summer Nexus carried out a complete upgrade of the practice’s IT systems, including the migration to Microsoft Active Directory 2003 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. The project also involved the implementation of Outlook Web Access to provide secure remote access to email and Group Policies to simplify the deployment and management of desktop computers.

Teignbridge District Council (TDC) provides services to 55,000 homes in South Devon across 260 square miles. Nexus have worked with TDC for many years on a large number of ICT related projects. More recently Nexus were asked to provide consultancy and support the organisations through a Microsoft Windows 2003 Active Directory migration. In order to achieve this, TDC had a requirement to implement Microsoft System Management Server (SMS) as a tool for system auditing, desktop application deployment and ongoing system management. Nexus supplied a highly experienced SMS consultant to successfully implement the management software in a complex, multiple domain environment.

During the summer of 2006 Nexus Open Systems supplied ICT solutions to many other businesses and organisations including, Goodrich (UK) Ltd, Clarke Bond, Bovey Castle, Trago Mills, Intek Communications and Crown Graphic Ltd.
