Nexus in the Field - Spring Projects Round Up

Nexus Open Systems

Nexus is one of the South West's leading providers of computer networks, telephone systems, technical labour and Web based software development services. Working closely with industry partners including Microsoft, HP and IBM, we have the skills and proven track record to help you harness effective Information and Communications Technology (ICT).

For many years business gurus have highlighted the importance of ICT as a tool to provide 'competitive advantage'. However, for many businesses, the utilisation of ICT trails behind the growth of the organisation itself.

Throughout the Spring, Nexus has worked with many organisations and businesses by helping plan, deploy and manage ICT infrastructure upgrades. These projects have not only delivered significant improvements in the reliability and efficiency of the organisation's business systems, but have also added functionality that has brought tangible benefits.

Here is a selection of spring 2006 case study overviews from Nexus Open Systems.

Devon Commercial Stationers has been meeting the stationary requirements of South West based businesses for over 30 years. A recent ICT infrastructure review identified a requirement to improve its core computer network. The upgrade project has given the company enhanced email facilities and the ability to gain secure remote access to critical business systems via the Internet. System security has been improved through the implementation of an organisation wide Sophos virus protection solution and Microsoft Windows System Update Server (WSUS).

Plymouth based business supplies company Martin Luck has also been working with Nexus to improve its ICT infrastructure. In addition to the deployment of a new server to support 'file and print' services and email, the company is also using Windows 2003 Servers integrated fax service to streamline its order processing.

Fine Tubes Ltd. is a precision engineering company based in Plymouth who manufacturer precision tubes for use in a variety of applications, including the Medical and Nuclear industries. The company make extensive use of the Internet to communicate with its business partners around the world. Fine Tubes has recently worked with Nexus to implement a secure firewall solution to protect its Internet connection from unauthorised external access and a Web Browser Management application to ensure that employees follow the companies Internet usage policy.

During this period Nexus Open Systems also completed ICT projects for a large number of clients including Exeter Diocese, Flybe, Atass, Mid Devon District Council and Ashfords Solicitors.

Nexus Open Software

Nexus Open Software has had an extremely successful start to the year. The company's main activities have focused on MiCore Portal Engine and MiSupport Helpdesk customer deployment programmes and a number of Bespoke Software Development projects.

Nexus is very pleased to announce that two of the regions leading organisations, Flybe and The Eden Project have both deployed MiCore and MiSupport.

These enterprise sized organisations will use MiCore Web Portals for company wide communication and collaboration, positioning MiCore as a key software product within their organisations. This reinforces the success that MiCore has enjoyed and confirms Nexus as a leading supplier in the Intranet, Extranet and Web Portal marketplaces.

MiCore also continues to enjoy success in the SME marketplace, as a cost effective "out of the box" Intranet and collaboration tool. Dunn & Baker Solicitors based in Exeter have recently purchased and deployed MiCore across their two sites. Office Manager, Simon Cutting comments, "I fully expect MiCore to improve company wide communications and to promote collaborative working throughout the company. The software is set to become a valuable and time saving resource for us."

Several existing MiCore clients have also upgraded their MiCore licences. Gregory Distribution is progressing the roll-out of MiCore across their network of UK locations. Anderson Anderson Brown, one of the leading independent firms of chartered accountants in Scotland, has also upgraded their MiCore licence to allow the company to provide the software to new employees.

The deployment of MiCore and MiSupport has now been completed for Bishop's Move Group, a major UK removal, storage and transportation firm. To find out more please read the customer testimonial from Peter Bishop, Group IT Director.

“Nexus have worked on an interesting project for the Dartmoor National Park Authority. Dartmoor use an Events Database and needed to make the data from it available on the UK National Parks Portal Website (www.nationalparks.gov.uk).  It is intended that this information would then also be made available through their Website (www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk) in due course.

Nexus were commissioned to add some enhancements to the Events Database and to enable an upload mechanism to the “National Parks in England, Scotland & Wales” Portal.  To visit this site and see the easy to use Events locator, please use the following link.” www.nationalparks.gov.uk/index/gtga_ep_events.htm

Recresco Ltd, is a company who have been at the forefront of glass recycling in the UK for nearly 30 years. The company commissioned Nexus to redesign and redevelop their public Website. The brief was to produce an innovative and exciting modern design to a pre-defined corporate style. The Website also had to have the ability for authorised Recresco personnel to update menus, sections and content themselves. The dynamic Website was designed and developed using the Nexus MiWeb Version 2.0 CMS (Content Management System). To see the new Website please visit www.recresco.com

Nexus Open Software has also been out on the road, hosting a highly successful event to promote its SPAR.net Enterprise Performance Management software product. Over 30 Local Authorities from as far afield as Middlesbrough, Lincolnshire and London attended the "SPAR.net: Catalyst for Change" event on the 26th April at the Bristol Hilton Hotel. Nexus hosted the event to provide a forum for SPAR.net users to present case studies on their own practical use of the software to other interested organisations. The event also generated a great deal of discussion and ideas.
