Nexus developer survives Mongol Rally
Nexus is proud to have sponsored in-house software developer Dominic Shaw on his epic adventure participating in the 2007 Mongol Rally. Dominic and three friends traveled a third of the way around the world, from London to Mongolia via a plethora of countries in a 15 year old Ford Fiesta 1.1!
The rally started in London and Dominic's team completed the marathon driving event three weeks later in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar, coming in 27th place out of more than 200 entrants.
In total the rally covered 9,000 miles based upon a route that competitors planned themselves, which for Dominic included crossing the Czech Republic, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and finally, Mongolia. Dominic commented on his return to work,
"Competing in the Mongol Rally was an unbelievable experience. Despite several near misses - collision with a truck, interrogation from Azerbaijan border guards, getting lost without petrol in Mongolia - I wouldn't have missed it for the world."
Dominic's team raised in excess of £1,300 for a number of charities including:
