William Haley had a requirement to upgrade their Windows Server 2003 domain.
Solution
William Haley Engineering Limited are specialists in the provision of steel frames for buildings throughout Great Britain. Using a state-of-the-art manufacturing process, the company produces steel structures for a huge range of buildings in a variety of business sectors.
Nexus were asked to provide advice, then supply equipment and conduct a migration for William Haley Engineering. The strategy included the replacement of a Windows 2003 domain and migration to a Windows 2008 domain running on new HP ProLiant DL380 hardware. The project included the following key steps :
- Upgraded ADDS schema for Server 2008 R2
- Built and installed new server hardware in rack
- Updated server firmware
- Installed Windows Server 2008 64-bit
- Updated the OS with the latest service packs
- Configured network card teaming
- Assigned static IP address configuration to the server
- Promoted the new server to a Domain Controller
- Transferred and configured all FSMO roles
- Transferred and configured the DNS service with forwarders
- Installed the WINS service
- Installed and configured the DHCP
- Transferred data from existing server
- Ensured security permissions and shares were correct
- Changed the logon script to reflect server name and shares
- Configured group policy objects
- Supplied project handover documentation
