Overview
South Central Ambulance NHS Trust commission Nexus to install and support their new network infrastructure.
Solution
The South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SCAS) came into being on 1st July 2006 - following the merger of the four ambulance trusts covering the counties of Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The Trust covers an area of circa 4,600sq miles with a resident population of approximately 4 million.
Nexus engineers worked with SCAS for many year before the merger in 2006 by helping to manage the day-to-day support of the Royal Berkshire Ambulance service network.
Following the merger Nexus was asked to tender for the design and supply of a new computer network that could cater for the thousands of users that the merger would create. Nexus was successful in its bid and the project highlights included:
- New network topology design, ratification and supply by Nortel
- Installation of resilient Nortel gigabit switched network
- Leased line router configuration between ambulance stations and HQ
- Microsoft Windows 2003 Server configuration and support
- Design and configuration of Microsoft Exchange 2007
- Server hardware supply and commissioning
- Design and implementation of switched firewall and web servers
- Ongoing support services through Nexus Telephone Helpdesk and Retained Technical Services (RTS)
