Bicton College and Capel Manor College required a method of logging aims for practical education based courses
Solution
Bicton College is a leading land management based college set within an area of outstanding natural beauty in the heart of Devon. Capel Manor College partner with Bicton and as such are London's only specialist centre for people interested in studying horticulture, landscaping and other practical curriculums.
Bicton College and Capel Manor College required a method of logging aims for practical education based courses. The focus was to engage Level 1 users, on a weekly basis, to enter their aims for a particular week, upload photos to a personal album and to give feedback about the course topics for that week. The interface was designed to be as simplistic as possible whilst providing a comprehensive feature set.
Nexus engaged with Bicton and Capel Manor Colleges to develop a Moodle VLE module, working closely with both organisations to establish the core design and functionality required for the interface. Through regular project meetings, feedback and discussion this was further refined to enhance usability and simplify the interface, ultimately delivering a solution that satisfied both organisations’ needs.
Nexus successfully developed a Moodle VLE module and the key elements of this project included:
- Creation of Moodle VLE activity module along with a pair of supporting Moodle blocks to provide the functionality within the client’s existing Moodle VLE solution.
- Design and develop a module to include:
- Personal Photo Album
- Aims Log
- Weekly Student Log
- Staff Reports
- Collaboration and communication throughout the project was conducted using the Nexus customer web portal to streamline code and data transfer, testing and communication with the different stakeholders.
- Functional and user acceptance testing to ensure the module was resilient and easy to use.
- Software trials using the clients test environment, followed by a successful "Go Live".
Nexus were able to listen to Bicton and Capel Manor College’s functional requirement and successfully interpret, translate and develop software to suit our needs. This illustrates the strength that Nexus has in taking a client’s problem and delivering a simple and effective solution.
